Invisalign has gained a lot of attention throughout the years, which has also been coupled with some misinformation. Our doctors are here to help you learn the facts about Invisalign and bust some myths along the way!

Fiction: Invisalign is more expensive than braces

Traditional braces have evolved over the years, making them more affordable and accessible than ever. However, many people believe that the cost of Invisalign will be more since it is a newer technology. But, do we have some good news!

Fact: Invisalign cost is comparable to braces

There is no set treatment cost since every smile is unique. Traditional braces and Invisalign are typically around the same price. Our team in Wichita and Derby will work with you and your insurance company to determine the best treatment plan before we begin.

Fiction: Invisalign trays are painful

Since traditional braces use metal wires and brackets that are fixed to the teeth and require tightening, they have a reputation for being uncomfortable or irritating. Because of this, many believe that Invisalign will have similar effects. However, Invisalign is completely removable, and the comfort level is higher than that of braces.

Fact: Invisalign trays are very comfortable

Invisalign uses a different approach than traditional braces. These clear aligners are made from the flexible SmartTrack material and are entirely customizable to your smile. Invisalign trays must be switched out every 1-2 weeks, causing some pressure, but it will subside after a day or two.

Fiction: Invisalign doesn’t work as well as braces

Since Invisalign is removable rather than fixed to the teeth, many people believe it is less effective than traditional braces. Making this a myth worth busting!

Invisalign: Fact or Fiction

Fact: Invisalign is just as effective as metal braces

Thanks to advancements in technology, Invisalign has come a long way over the years. Originally, it was for post-orthodontic treatment retention, but we have found that they’re just as effective as traditional braces at correcting orthodontic problems. You can achieve the smile you’ve always wanted if used as directed by Dr. JK and Dr. Ken.

Fiction: It’s hard to maintain Invisalign aligners

When thinking of orthodontic treatment, you may first think of the restrictions that come with it. The rules that come with metal braces aren’t present with Invisalign.

Fact: Invisalign is easy to maintain

The process for keeping your Invisalign clean and clear is simple. Just remove them and rinse with an approved solution. To keep them in mint condition, just use a special care kit. Another perk of Invisalign is that you will continue your regular oral hygiene routine, allowing you to floss and brush as you usually would. You will also not have to deal with any food restrictions, leaving you to eat and drink whatever you want.

Fiction: Treatment takes longer with Invisalign

Another common assumption, similar to the effectiveness myth, is that the treatment time will be longer with Invisalign. Especially since clear aligners are removable and not fixed to your teeth, that is certainly not the case.Fact: Treatment time with Invisalign is similar to metal braces

We see a wide variety of cases at our Wichita and Derby offices, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to treatment time. Typically, treatment time with metal braces is around two years, whereas Invisalign averages less than two years. There are several factors to consider when looking at treatment time, such as compliance, age, and orthodontic issues.
